The human brain has evolved to prioritize survival and movement. Unfortunately, the quality of movement in modern life has decreased significantly. Gray Cook defines optimal movement as part of the Functional Movement Systems, where the goal is to “move well”. Once movement quality is established, we must “move often” and in varied ways. Improper motor control increases the risk of injury, making it crucial to improve both movement quality and quantity.

Move well and move often
To enhance performance, corrective exercises and movement tests are essential. As athletes and humans, we must develop foundational skills first, then expand our movement repertoire. As Mark Verstegen says, “Movement variability is the oil of the central nervous system.” I’ve trained with top national and international experts in functional movement to gain the best skills as an athlete coach.
RAFFAELE CELLA
My approach to movement
I have worked for many years as a functional training instructor in various gyms in my area and as an athletic trainer for Dinamo Basket Gorizia. I collaborate with physiotherapists and orthopedic specialists to help people improve their movement and performance, recover from injuries, and reduce injury risk. I offer one on one sessions and trainings in mini groups. I am one of the few trainers in Italy who emphasizes breathing techniques and the connection between feet and body, implementing barefoot training to re-establish a natural and healthy movement.
